As you can guess from the title what this blog post will be about. Of course you can!!
Well, lets say I spent Friday night and Saturday afternoon of having the honor document the current roster of the Cavemen baseball team as well as past alumni who happen to include some former pro ball players for the MLB.
Friday night was the 1st annual Alumni dinner and induction. With some very great speeches I might add.
The big celebration in all this is to recognize the talent that this tiny Southeastern New Mexico town produces when it comes to baseball players. From our current roster of players to the ones who come back and give to the team and community in various way.
They (the pros) have not forgotten where they came from and in this day and age, that is rare! I was glad to be able to capture some of the moments from Friday nights event. To be able to see the pros pass on knowledge, Thank their former teammates and coaches. Was definitely great to see them at the banquet to honor each other and former coaches.
But in saying that, it sounds one sided. It's not, the tradition lives on and is fostered in the current players and the ones to follow in their footsteps and in doing that, they will pass it on and so forth to the future generation of Cavemen.
Saturdays game was the varsity team against the alumni. Their was a lot of good old fun and ribbing on both sides of the dugouts. But the moments in between were the ones that mattered. Seeing the alumni interact with the varsity members while they were on base. Both sides played the game as it should be...FUN!
I don't know if they kept score...I didn't. but I know just from seeing the looks on faces from both sides. They had fun and got to live in the moment that as baseball players love. Just to be able to play with brothers who share a love for the game!
